The person behind Rekindle.
I’ve always been drawn to art, storytelling, and creating things people can hold and share. As a kid, I used to make activity booklets with crayons and ask my dad to help me print and bind them to hand out to friends. Over time, that grew into digital art, and eventually into the work I do today — creating newsletters and community publications.
I’m neurodivergent, which shapes how I work in a positive way. I naturally notice details, patterns, and small moments that others might miss. I enjoy organizing information and turning many moving pieces into something clear and meaningful.
For the past few years, I’ve been living and working in a remote Tahltan community in Northern BC, where I created printed newsletters for the Band Council. In these small, remote indigenous communities, communication includes stories, photos, language, culture, and everyday moments that help people stay connected, including Elders and members living away from home.
When I work on a project, I try to be present beyond the screen. I attend events when possible, take photos, speak with community members and staff, and look for ways to include youth, Elders, and local voices. One of my favourite projects was helping set up a student reporter so school news could be shared by a youth from the community.
Rekindle is a one-person practice. I lead each project from start to finish, building relationships, gathering stories, and shaping publications that reflect the communities they come from.
Outside of work, I’m happiest near the ocean. I love the beach, sea life, and anything to do with shells and tides.
